Abortion and Coercion
The laws in Louisiana have changed over the years, and abortion is illegal in Louisiana. This law, however, takes abortion control even further. Coerced abortion by means of fraud occurs when a person knowingly and intentionally engages in the use of abortion-inducing drugs on a pregnant woman, without her knowledge or intent, with the intent of causing an abortion. In other words, some drugs can lead to abortion, and using those drugs is illegal.
Possible penalties
A violation of this law is a felony. If you are found guilty of coerced criminal abortion by means of fraud when the child is more than three months old, the sentencing range is imprisonment at hard labor for not less than ten nor more than twenty years and a fine of $50,000 up to $100,000, or both. Should the abortion-inducing drug cause injury to the mother or death to the pregnant woman, the charge will be increased.
Keep in mind the laws and interpretations are continually changing. As rulings come down from different courts and jurisdictions, these rules are apt to change.
