In Louisiana, what is the punishment for having a false or the wrong license plate on a vehicle or one that was altered? As a former prosecutor and now a criminal defense attorney, I want to make sure you understand driving with the wrong license plate is a misdemeanor in Louisiana, punishable with a fine of up to $100 or up to 30 days in parish jail, or both. How can this innocently happen? I had a client with two registered vehicles and absentmindedly put the wrong plate on the wrong vehicle! It can happen, so always be careful when adding a license plate on new vehicles.

If you or someone you know has a question about vehicle plates, do not hesitate to contact the law office of Larrion L. Hillman at 318-549-9180. This blog is not intended as legal advice, nor does it form an attorney-client relationship. Larrion Hillman practices criminal defense in Caddo Parish, Webster Parish, and Bossier Parish, Louisiana.
